FROM AMERICAN RIVERS
American Rivers is offering one FULL TUITION SCHOLARSHIP to an emerging writer, artist, or storyteller from the Southwest. The award may be put toward the 2021 Green River Field Institute or the 2021 Gates of Lodore Workshop.
SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS + APPLICATION PROCESS
Artists and writers from Indigenous and minority communities are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants may be aspiring storytellers in any medium, emerging journalists or artists, university students, adjunct faculty, or environmental, social, or educational communicators.
Writers and artists of ALL BACKGROUNDS and ALL SKILL LEVELS are invited to apply.
We can accept applications in written, audio, or video formats.
If you have trouble understanding or accessing the applications, please contact us at info@freeflowinstitute.com and we will help you.
The 2021 Southwest Emerging Artist Scholarship is open to any qualified applicant, from anywhere and any background. There is no limit to the number of candidates that can apply from one institution, organization, or community, though preference will be given to BIPOC candidates with deep ties to the Southwest.
The successful applicant will be a storyteller or communicator skilled in one or more media, familiar with the visions of Freeflow Institute and American Rivers, and will submit a compelling pitch for an original creative project that is essentially related to the Freeflow Institute experience, to be used and distributed by American Rivers once it is completed. The applicant should demonstrate the capacity to research and craft an excellent story or work of art.
The story or work will be developed into a media project centered around the following goals:
- enhance and expand public awareness of an issue facing the particular river, watershed, landscape or people in the Southwest
- ignite compelling dialogue around important issues related to American Rivers’ mission to protect free-flowing rivers in the region
- encourage people to celebrate, experience, and protect Southwestern rivers
Application deadline is April 1, 2021.
